Recollection

Internal

Pricing

Everything decided, drafted or discussed about what Recollection costs, in one place. No consumer prices are final yet. Each section says how settled it is.

Updated 30 September 2026, with the companion app and the Meta VR glasses as they are now. The business model (Step 11) and entitlements notes from the Windows workspace aren't included here yet.

What each plan allows, as the server enforces it today. The limits are placeholders for engineering, and none has a price yet.

  • Every plan includes shared sessions and inviting people to a memory.
  • Plans combine by taking the most generous value of each limit; they never add up.
  • Ending a plan only stops new uploads, processing and extra sessions. Viewing, exporting and deleting are never paid.
  • Plus and Pro are sold as a Meta Horizon Store or web subscription. The production plan comes with a Usurper production package.

How people pay

  • Web: Stripe Checkout, monthly or yearly, for Plus or Pro. Approved to try on 28 September; test mode until you switch it on. No promo codes; cancelling is through Stripe's portal.
  • Headset: Meta's own in-app subscriptions and purchases on Horizon OS (recommended: free download, subscription in the app, hands-on reconstructions charged separately).
  • iPhone: no purchase screens in the app (App Store rule 3.1.1). People subscribe on the web.
  • Plans can also come from a production package, or be given by us (support, beta, press).
  • Processing credits are tracked as a ledger, and can be bought separately once they have a price.

Decided (prices quoted per event)

Production packages

What the site offers for filmed events. Each is “Quoted for your day”: event length, number of cameras, venues and package.

Most chosen

The Glasses Package

Meta VR glasses: retail $1,299 (128 GB), ships spring 2027.

The Quest Package

Meta Quest 3 or 3S (Quest 3 retail $499).

The Family Package

Both.

  • Every recollection includes guest passes. How many isn't stated yet, on purpose: it follows from pricing.
  • Suggested structure (PLATFORMS.md): price the production as the core, add hardware as a bundled line at a fixed markup, and include phone and computer viewing.
  • Cost stack: production and editing (the biggest cost, the same for every package), the hardware per sale, and software spread across bookings.
  • Earlier names: AR / VR / XR Package (28 Aug), and before that browser / Android / iPhone with Luma Pro 2 glasses (18 Aug).

Where things stand (30 September 2026)

The Meta VR glasses

Announced at Connect 2026. They run the same system as Quest 3, so Recollection is one app for both: nothing extra to build or sell separately. For watching memories they're the best device Meta has made.

Meta Quest 3 Meta VR glasses
Retail price $499 $1,299 (128 GB + microSD)
Available Now Spring 2027
Screen LCD, 2064 × 2208 per eye Micro-OLED, 2412 × 2288 per eye, Dolby Vision HDR, IMAX Enhanced
Field of view About 110° × 96° 70° × 66° (narrower)
Weight About 515 g on the head About 100 g glasses + 300 g puck
Controllers In the box Sold separately (Recollection works by pinch)
  • The headset app pairs with the phone's account and lists its library (demo build; not yet run on a real headset).
  • What the phone sends plays there: photos with their 3D, and videos as their 3D (RGB-D) version.
  • Pricing follows the hardware: the Glasses Package carries $800 more hardware than the Quest Package.

What's built (30 September 2026)

The companion app (iPhone)

What the app does today, and what it means for pricing. In testing on one iPhone (installed from Xcode); not in the App Store yet.

  • Free download, sign in with an emailed code. Face ID after the first time, if you choose; asks again after 15 minutes away.
  • Add your own photos and videos (up to 30 at once). Turned to 3D on the phone itself: depth the camera captured (Portrait), otherwise Depth Anything V2 Small. No server processing, so it costs us nothing per memory.
  • Three 3D styles for photos. Classic, Layers (the default) and Parallax, each held to a ±2° tilt so it never shows a flaw. Videos: Classic and Layers.
  • 360 memories. Look around by moving the phone (the Jazzy's Birthday and Ebony's Beehive videos are on the test phone).
  • Everything kept on the phone. Until the app is removed; Settings › Storage frees space memory by memory.
  • Sends what you add to your account, for the headset. Upload, then a safety (virus) check, then ready on every device. Needs a plan with uploads (Plus or Pro).
  • Pair a headset. Type the six-character code the headset shows.
  • No purchases in the app. App Store rule 3.1.1: plans are bought on the web.

Market context

What others charge

  • Typical wedding videography: $1,000–$6,000.
  • A “Meta Quest delivery” add-on around $750 has been seen. Unconfirmed, and not a like-for-like comparison.
  • ReVeil Media: prices still not public.

Decided (for now)

Free while testing

  • Every new sign-up gets Plus free until 30 November 2026 (approved 30 September: “yes, just for now for testing”).
  • The owner account has a free grant for testing uploads.

Open question

Still to decide

  1. Phone uploads to the headset need Plus or Pro (Free has no uploads today). Should Free include a few, so a new customer can try it on their headset?
  2. On-device 3D costs us nothing: keep it free on the phone for everyone, and keep processing credits for server work only?
  3. The Glasses Package can't ship until the Meta VR glasses do (spring 2027). Until then: offer the Quest Package with an upgrade, take pre-orders, or both?
  4. Glasses markup: they retail at $1,299, against $499 for Quest 3. Controllers aren't in the box (the app works by pinch); include a pair or not?
  5. Prices for Plus and Pro (monthly and yearly). Stripe is wired for both, with no amounts set yet.
  6. Prices for the Glasses, Quest and Family packages (today: “Quoted for your day”).
  7. How many guest passes come with each package (“the number follows from pricing”).
  8. Processing credits: price per credit, and whether hands-on L3/L4 reconstructions are credits or a per-memory fee.
  9. Production tiers T1–T4: waiting on measured costs from Agent 2.
  10. Year-1 model to lead with: service, subscription, hybrid or enterprise. Budgets to plan against: MVP ~$13.5K, conservative ~$41.4K, growth ~$117.9K per year.
  11. Guest photo/video uploads (adopted 2026-08-28): an open-ended storage commitment against a fixed price, so it needs a limit or a price.
  12. Confirm the ~$750 “Meta Quest delivery” market anchor (not a like-for-like comparison).
  13. Cloudflare Free or Paid plan for the backend.
  14. Whether to buy a stereo 180/360 camera rig for a premium service.
